GDDKit 2.x · Windows · macOS · Linux

Design documentation without the cloud overhead

GDDKit is an offline-first desktop workspace for structured Game Design Documents. Your project lives in a readable .gddkit file on your computer. Write in Markdown, organize the design into focused sections, render Mermaid diagrams locally, and publish the result as Markdown or a styled A4 PDF.

These docs cover the released v2 desktop application. The interface itself uses English labels, so translated guides keep exact button and menu names in code while explaining the workflow in your language.

Start safely

Choose the right package, create a project, understand where data is stored, and bring an existing v1 file forward without conversion. Start here.

Write at speed

Use Edit, Split, or Preview mode; format with the toolbar; paste images; search every section; and keep editor and preview scrolling aligned. Tour the workspace.

Build a useful structure

Begin with 12 guided GDD sections, add specialized design presets, create custom sections, and save your own reusable presets. Organize sections.

Explain systems visually

Insert flowcharts, state machines, sequences, ER diagrams, Gantt charts, pie charts, class diagrams, and mindmaps with Mermaid. Use Mermaid.

Publish with intent

Export the complete document and changelog to Markdown or choose from eight built-in PDF styles. Export a document.

Create a PDF design system

Build reusable PDF styles with custom type, colors, Mermaid styling, margins, and optional cover/header/footer SVG layers. Open the Theme Designer guide.
